2023 was a monumental year for Courageous Leadership. While I have been on the road for over 20 years teaching and consulting law enforcement professionals, it wasn’t until this year that I decided to forge ahead on a full time basis.
After three decades in the profession and being pulled in a myriad of ways, I have decided to become singularly focused on spreading the philosophy of Courageous Leadership.
Many of you continue to encourage our efforts so I wanted to specifically thank everyone here for following the journey.
A Decade of Importance
For every decade that life has existed, we’ve been saying the next decade is our most important but when it comes to policing, I think the writing is on the proverbial wall.
In many ways, cowardly leadership got us in the place we are in and it will take courageous leadership to get us back to the goal of crime reduction. I don’t think we have more than a few years or the pendulum may break, preventing a return to normal for many agencies.
I feel a sense of urgency and my goal here is to encourage your own efforts at leading with courage but I also know that I need to do more.
If I could describe 2023, I would say it was an important foundational year. Prior to 2023, you had to see me in a classroom to know much of anything about courageous leadership and the importance it plays today in law enforcement.
The Foundation
This is my 50th article in 2023 and our subscriber base has grown dramatically. We published 40 podcasts this year and spent several weeks on the road teaching and consulting. I discuss the principles of Courageous Leadership weekly on the LEO Roundtable Podcast and I have seen a major increase in correspondence from officers across the country.
This is the time for doing…not talking.
Time For Action
While I will be continuing to provide you weekly content, it’s time to go deeper on this vital topic and provide you actionable items that can assist you. I’ll be discussing those specifics in the coming weeks. but feel free to reach out if you have any suggestions or needs.
