well said Chief!

I spent 7 years at my agency. starting, right after I earned my MA in Criminology, as a crime analyst. went to the academy, ended up on the streets. after that, every request for training was denied. requests to be detached, denied. all my best cases brought me write-ups (e.g. the abused foster kid I got removed, written up because foster-mom said the girl kicked her in the breastfeeding causing her breastfeeding cancer. or remembering a guy I had arrested was strong, violent, and prone to being drunk I responded to help 2 female officers. they disregarded me, buy I went anyway. reprimand).

and so it went, until at 40 I said no more. started law school at 41 and couldn't be happier.

the pool of potential recruits is dwindling, and finding replacement cops is getting harder. law enforcement definitely needs to find a way to retain people or it'll be hard times
